Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Derrick lost his mother, Jackline Achieng, several years ago and his father, Caleb Otieno lives in the slums of Nairobi. Derrick was cared for by his paternal grandmother in Kajwang Village and was receiving assistance from Caren and friends, but rarely attending school and experiencing chronic skin infections. Caren brought Derrick to CRM when the home opened in 2005.

Yasmin Amondi

Year of birth: 1998
Orphan status and how she came to CRM: Both of Yasmin’s parents are living, but suffer from extreme poverty. Yasmin’s mother requested that Yasmin be brought to CRM, as she was suffering from malnourishment and not able to attend school due to health issues and inability to afford school fees.

Faith Achieng

Year of birth: 1999
Orphan status and how she came to CRM: Faith’s mother, Eunice Akinyi, is living and brought her daughter to CRM in 2005 with the hope that CRM could provide Faith with more food and educational opportunity that she could not.

Ronald Odwal

Year of birth: 2000
Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Ronald’s father, Benjamin Mango, is deceased and his mother, Pelesia Akinyi, is unable to care for him, as she is unemployed. Ronald’s mother brought him to CRM from Karombo Village in 2005.

Year of birth: 2000
Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Naphtali came to CRM at the request of his maternal grandmother. Because Naphtali’s father is deceased and his mother lives in extreme poverty, he did not attend school and suffered from malnourishment before coming to CRM.

Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Brezzy’s mother, Salome Atieno, is deceased and his father, John Oyare of Karombo Village is unemployed and brought Breezy to CRM. Breezy’s grandmother had been caring for him before he came to CRM, but he was suffering from malnourishment and needed extra care.

Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Kibet came to CRM with his sister Christine after their mother died in childbirth. Kibet and Christine’s father was unable to take care of them after the loss of his wife, as he is unemployed

Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Betty is from Konya Village and she came to CRM at the request of her mother, Eucabeth Achieng. Eucabeth is unemployed and Betty was malnourished. Salim Juma, Betty’s father, is deceased.

Orphan status and how he came to CRM: After his parents died, Patrick was being cared for by his grandmother in Kajwang Village, and came to CRM at her request. Patrick has been unable to attend school (which explains his low class level) while living with his grandmother due to malnourishment and inability to pay school fees. Patrick ran away from home and Caren recently convinced him to go to CRM for help after speaking with his grandmother.

Orphan status and how he came to CRM: Albert was raised by his grandmother, but she is unemployed and was unable to provide adequate care for him, so he came to CRM at her urging. Both of Albert’s parents are deceased and he has been unable to attend school due to inability to pay fees and to purchase a uniform.
